What's Going On in October 2014 -- from the Vicar's TATS (To all the saints) Message

BRUNCH WITH THE BUNCH

The next Brunch with the Bunch will be on Sunday, 2 November, which isalso our patronal feast. Plan to bring something appropriate to the Hallowe'en, All Saints', All Souls' cycle. Jack and Jackie McCarthy are again making arrangements for a December Advent Brunch at The Big Fish.

WORSHIP LEADERS

The next scheduled meeting of the Lay Worship Leaders is on Saturday, 11 October. The sessions run from 9 am until 1030 at Twelfth Place. Plan to bring a bite to share at brunch which follows Morning Prayer and precedes a brief class on prayer, led by the Vicar.

YOUR BISHOP’S COMMITTEE

The next regularly-scheduled meeting of the Bishop’s Committee is Wednesday, 15 October. Note that it will be at 6 pm at Twelfth Place, and conclude promptly at 7pm so that members can attend the Fall Adult Ed Series (see below). Meetings are open and members of the congregation are invited to attend.

FALL 2014 ADULT EDUCATION SERIES: OLD TESTAMENT STORIES NOT IN THE LECTIONARY

A class examining four interesting Old Testament stories which didn't makeit into the Sunday lectionary will be held on successive Wednesdays: 8, 15, 22 and 29 October. Classes will commence at 7:00 pm and conclude promptly at 8:30 with compline led by a lay worship leader.

THE FEAST OF ALL SAINTS: 2 NOVEMBER 2014

We will celebrate our patronal Feast with choir music and the reading of the Necrology, when we remember those we love who have gone to be with the Lord in the last year. Deacon Dad has prepared a necrology (list of the names to be read) which is available in the coffee room.

COOKING UP CHRISTMAS

Due to inexplicable demand, we will again teach three sessions of Cooking Up Christmas on three successive Wednesdays -- 3, 10 and 17 December -- beginning at 7:00 pm. Miriam Anderson has again offered her home for this event. More details as Advent approaches.

THE LANDING

Our contribution to this programme is to provide a hot nutritious meal for about 20-25 hungry kids once a month. So that this is not too great a burden on anyone, Hanne suggests that two or more people sign up for the same night and share the duties. To prepare food for a future event, please put your name on the sign-up sheet at church. The food should be delivered ready to eat at 8:30 PM. Hanne is right now looking for a volunteer for October (August and September are covered.)
